Today felt like both a funeral and a first birthday. It was the first anniversary of the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake and the resulting tsunami. There were moments of silence. There were ceremonies and media specials. There were people struggling with their emotions. There were people remembering the times before, the instant of, and the seconds, weeks, months after. There were children playing baseball.
There were also people going about their day, looking back not in anger or resentment but seeking to understand and learn, and looking forward with honor and respect for the people affected and the natural forces which were displayed.
