Tokyo Views – Sakura (Cherry Blossom) opening day in Ueno

The title is a wrong: there is no opening day in Ueno, and the cherry blossoms are not all open in Ueno. That said, the blossoms were not out last weekend, they have been ready to burst open all week and yesterday probably had several trees in bloom, but yesterday was a particularly nasty day of wet and wind so I doubt many people went out to have a look… and today was a brilliant spring day with several trees in bloom to enjoy.

All said, today Ueno park was packed with people enjoying the spectacle, even though most of the trees have yet to bloom. Lots of people walking around seeing the sight through their camera, lots of people on blue tarps spread on the ground enjoying the trees above them, lots of people simply meandering, and lots of people doing all of the above.

On the way home a flash of color caught my attention as I passed a driveway, and in it stood a lone cherry tree at it’s peak.
