From Garden to Table

It’s nice to return home from a trip and find that the garden has been carrying on without you – particularly when someone else has been tending it in your absence. My first harvest: a pair of turnips, just right to be sliced into strips and briefly pickled in a mixture of rice vinegar, soy sauce, ginger, and red pepper. Served with a few slices of chilled pork it made for a very good cool lunch on a hot summer day…. and the greens reserved for dinner.
