2012 Apple Harvest

It’s been a pretty miserable year in the orchard; I haven’t yet been able to bring myself to write what I try to think of as an annual summer report. A wet spring led to fireblight and scab outbreaks, nearly all of the apples that did set ended up being insect ridden, and then the rain stopped and trees entered drought survival mode. A lone apple hanging on the Golden Delicious tree seemed to be making it through – until it blew off in yesterday’s wind. Too close to ripe to toss, too green to eat, it’s the total harvest this year.
